This blog is a 'pop up' archive that records how people living in South Africa are supporting one another through acts of kindness during lock down. If you would like to have a story featured on the blog, please send a message or voice note to 062 328 1184, or email archiveofkindness@gmail.com. Submissions may be in any of the official South African languages, or in French or Portuguese.

The site is being curated by Dr Jess Auerbach of North West University (Twitter: @jess_auerbach).

Note: This site is now in transition. Its primary focus was on lockdown in South Africa during the initial two phases of the Corona virus emergency. From August- November 2020 second year students in the Anthropology of Media course at North West University, South Africa, expanded its reach through submissions they made towards their own portfolios of care, citizenship and compassion. It now contains almost 2000 submissions from around the country, and is an example of active, transformative pedagogy. Students completed this project in lieu of an exam, and for many of them it provided unique insight, expanded vision, and a greater sense of hope for the future.
